Missouri Fox Trotters

The Missouri Fox Trotter, perhaps best known for its comfortable ride (natural, smooth, signature gaits), is also noted for its versatility, surefootedness, and gentle temperament. While it is predominantly used for trail riding, pleasure riding, and endurance competition, the fox trotter is also an acclaimed show horse for its beauty, style, and grace in its three natural gaits.

The history of the breed traces its origin back to the early settlers coming west to the Ozark Mountains from the neighboring eastern Appalachian states. The early pioneers relied upon these horses for their surefootedness in the mountains, and their versatility around the homestead (plowing, hauling logs, working cattle, and pulling the family wagon or buggy). In 2002 the Missouri Legislature recognized the Missouri Fox Trotter as the Official Sate Horse whose motto is, "To Ride One Is To Own One".
